What is SIL?

SIL stands for Supported Independent Living. It is NDIS funding for help with everyday tasks in your home, such as personal care, meals, medication, cleaning and getting out, usually shared with a small number of housemates and often available day and night. SIL pays for the support, not the house: rent and board come from your own income. The home itself is a SIL house: a regular home, unit or villa where a SIL provider delivers that support.

What SIL with Parcare looks like

  • Support workers on site day and night, with a sleepover worker overnight where the home needs one.
  • Support is usually shared, about one worker to three residents, and 1:1 hours are arranged through your plan when you need them.
  • Help with personal care, meals, medication, household tasks, appointments and getting out into the community.
  • A home that stays yours. Parcare runs the home and delivers the SIL on site, so support is a few steps away.
  • Your own space. Our newer homes are self contained units with a private bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette, and communal areas you can use when you want company.

Where our SIL homes are

Our homes are in Ormiston in Redland City, Salisbury and Rochedale South in Brisbane, and new self contained SIL units at Nandala Drive, Tanah Merah in Logan are expected from 30 November 2026. Who SIL suits

SIL suits people who need support with everyday tasks most days, often around the clock, and who want to live with a small number of housemates. If you would rather design your own living arrangement, with supports built around where and how you want to live, an Individualised Living Option may fit better. We help you and your support coordinator work out which one your plan and your goals point to.

SIL vs SDA

SIL is the support. Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is the building: housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs, funded separately in the plans of participants who meet the SDA rules. Most people in SIL do not live in SDA, and some people in SDA receive SIL inside it. Parcare Lifestyle is registered for both, so we can tell you which one your plan points to.

What is SIL in the NDIS?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for help with daily tasks at home, such as personal care, meals, medication and household tasks, often shared with housemates and available day and night. It is paid from the Core budget of your plan.

What is the difference between SIL and SDA?

SIL funds the support you receive at home. SDA funds the home itself, for participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs who need specialist housing. You can have SIL without SDA, and SIL can be delivered inside an SDA home.

Does SIL funding cover rent?

No. SIL pays for support, not rent. Rent and board are paid from your own income, such as the Disability Support Pension, and your quote shows what you pay before you agree to it.

How do I find a SIL vacancy?

Our vacancies page lists every SIL house and unit open today. Call (07) 3899 1759 or send an NDIS referral and we arrange a time to meet you and your future housemates.
