Respite

Respite that works for the person and the carer

Families on the Peninsula hold up a lot of the support themselves. Respite gives the carer time to rest, work, travel for family or simply sleep, while the person they care for keeps getting good support. Parcare Lifestyle provides NDIS respite on the Mornington Peninsula and in Frankston. Our Victorian office support is based in Carrum Downs, and our support workers live in Frankston South, Carrum Downs, Skye and Blairgowrie.

Two ways respite can work

In-home respite

A support worker comes to your home and takes over the support for a few hours, a day, overnight or a weekend. Your routine, your bed, your house. For many people this is the easiest option, and it is usually funded from Core Supports.

Short-term accommodation (STA)

STA funds accommodation, personal care and support to take part in community activities during a short stay away from home. It is a support, not holiday funding: the focus is a safe, well-supported stay that gives the carer a break or helps you build independence. Talk to us about current STA options on the Peninsula.

Southern Peninsula respite

Respite in Rosebud, Rye, Sorrento and Dromana is hard to find, because few providers can staff it. With workers living in Blairgowrie and across the Peninsula, we can roster in-home respite at the bottom end of the Peninsula.

What does STA funding cover?

Under the NDIA's STA guideline, STA funds your accommodation, personal care and the support you need to take part in community activities while you stay. It does not pay for the activities themselves. We confirm what is claimable against your plan before anything is booked.

How much respite can I have?

It depends on your plan. STA and in-home respite both come from your Core Supports budget, so the amount available depends on what else that budget pays for. Your support coordinator or LAC can help you check.

Can respite happen at home instead of somewhere else?

Yes. In-home respite means a worker takes over the support at your home so the carer can step away. For many families it is the simplest option.

How do I get started?

Send a referral or call us. A participant, family member, support coordinator or hospital discharge planner can refer. We call back, talk through your goals and plan, and match you with a worker who lives close by.
